Specific Need
Match Day funds will allow us to expand the number of larger items we are able to provide families such as high chairs, cribs, strollers, and activity centers. Additional funds would allow us to purchase clothing racks and shelving to stock more baby's clothes. Currently, we are able to provide only the items donated to us. We wish to purchase more formula, diapers and consumables to help struggling families.
Mission
The Baby Closet provides life essentials such as food, clothing, diapers, toiletries, and miscellaneous items to families with infants through 5 years of age. We serve all families of Lyon, Chase, Greenwood, Morris, Wabaunsee, Osage & Coffey Counties regardless of income level.
Profile
A family has an average cost for diapers each month of $120 per child (that's $1440 per year, per child). This is one of the highest expenses after rent and utilities. In addition, expenses such as formula, food, clothing, and toiletries add a considerable amount to a family's budget. Some childcare facilities require families to provide 6-8 diapers per day for each child cared for. Babies without clean diapers are exposed to more potential heaIth risks and are less likely to be accepted to daycare facilities, sometimes leaving parents unable to attend work. It is our task to help families provide for their infants, the most vulnerable of our society.
Our non- profit organization began in January of 2022. We have been able to serve over 400 families and approximately 600 children. We are a volunteer organization located downstairs in the First Congregational Church. The church graciously provides a large welcoming space for us. Community organizations helped us get off to a great start. We have since expanded our clientbase to the surrounding 6 counties. Donations have come in from individuals all across the country and one even as far away as California. As one advertising slogan used to say, "Babies are our business, our only business! Please help us help them." We thank you for your consideration!
