FUMC School Supply Project

Specific Need

Funds received as a result of Match Day participation will enable us to fund each year's school supply project nine months in advance.  We hope to be in the position to know that we have the funds neccesary to continue our project for the next school year and can assure Emporia families that the cost of school supplies will not be a concern for them at the beginning of the next school year.  Advanced funding also allows us to make purchases when the prices are the lowest, and not have to wait until adequate donations are received to make purchases.

Mission

To provide school supplies to all children in Emporia, easing the financial burden to their families of back-to-school time and most importantly, providing the tools necessary for all children to be successful in school.

Profile

The School Supply Project of First United Methodist Church is unique in that we are the only organization that provides all students in Emporia with school supplies. We communicate with Emporia educators to determine what is actually needed, from year to year, to intentially provide supplies that will be used and have these supplies delivered before the start of school.  We expect to provide school supplies for approximately 4500 students for the 2023-2024 school year in Emporia.  We are proud that our project began as a partnership with Walnut Elementary and has grown over the past ten years to include all of Emporia's students.
