Emporia Area Match Day

William Allen White Community Partnership

Specific Need

Since 2018 is the 150th Anniversary of White's birth, we are rolling out a long-term capital campaign.  We have many large groups, especially school children, and we have almost out-grown the current Visitor's Center.  We also own The Mother's House--Mary Ann Hatten White's home, which is just across the garden from Red Rocks.  The House is in desperate need of restoration.  The structure of the house is good, but it needs to be totally renovated.  We think it would make a great Educational Center.  Our goal is to raise $150,000 over a five-year period and beginning the restoration of the Mary Ann Hatten White home.

The mission of the William Allen White Community Partnership, Inc., is to promote and support the history of the William Allen White family.  William Allen White was the owner/editor of the Emporia Gazette and was a Pulitzer-prize winning author.  At his home, "Red Rocks," White hosted many influential visitors, including 5 U.S. Presidents.

The William Allen White Community Partnership, Inc., is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote and suppot the history of the William Allen White family through preservation, interpretation, and operation of the Red Rocks State Historic Site.  Activities of the corporation include providing fund raising, grant writing, site administration, volunteer services, advocacy, and public relations; and advising the Kansas State Historical Society on these activites.
