Emporia Area Match Day

Emporia Senior Center, Inc.

Specific Need

Currently, we are in need of items for maintenance on aging mechanicals and replacement upgrades.  For example, the Center has 3 air conditioning and heating roof-top units that are currenly out-of-service.  Our future vision is to create a technology and computer lab which will need new equipment.  Plans for a dedicated gift shop are in development to accomodate for new inventory that will complement the current items.  Renovations are needed to remodel an existing room to create a dedicated space for clinics already offered: foot, health, legal and financial.

Our Mission is to enhance the quality of life of Lyon County seniors by promoting health, social and recreational activities, and adovocating for social change.

"Youth joining hands with the elderly" was the motto of the Blue Key National Honor Fraternity, who helped raise funds for what is now known as the The Emporia Senior Center, Inc.  Since its incorporation in 1983, the Emporia Senior Center has strived to meet the needs of seniors by networking with community leaders and members, as well as volunteers, and especially those seeking to further their education.

The Board of Directors fully supports the vision of their new Executive Director, Ian Boyd, and his goals of creating a premier senior center.  The Director is working to "think outside of the box" in hopes of bringing new ideas and positive energy.  By doing so, we anticipate an increase of our membership, donor base, volunteerism, and support from the community.
