Emporia Area Match Day

Keep It a Safe Summer Taskforce

Specific Need

Match Day would be used to provide stability for this taskforce.  We have a small revenue stream from the KISS 5K, but need additional dollars to continue to provide this event free to attendees and vendors.  The money raised from Match Day is used for food that is not donated, prizes at the end of the evening for children that turned in their complete passport, and other expenses that arise that we can't get donated.

Ensuring children from Lyon County and surrounding counties have a fun, safe summer.

Keep It a Safe Summer is an opportunity for families to discover all the fun events, activities, and how to prepare for a safe, adventurous, and fun summer.  There were many hands-on activities to do at Keep It a Safe Summer as well as learn about all the opportunities right here in our community for families and children to get involved in this summer.  We had 54 local and state organizations that provided booths with activities and information from water safety, to local camps, railroad crossing safety, Emporia Recreation with all their activities and obstacle courses.  Best estimates are 1500-2500 people at the event.  We gave out 750 passports, 1200 hot dogs, 1000 bags of chips, 700 bags of apples, 300 bags of carrots, and 500 plus bicycle helmets provided by the Emporia Community Foundation and the Sadie Jones Trust.  This is event is a free event for families and vendors.
