Lyon County Crime Stoppers

Goal: $10,000.00

Specific Need

Lyon County Crime Stopper's would like to be more visible to the public so that everyone knows how they can contact Crime Stopper's to give information to law enforcement with total and complete anonymity.  Donations collected will help Crime Stopper's pay reward money when information leads to an arrest.  Additionally, donations will help offset the costs of maintaining our P3 Tip Hotline and P3 Tip Mobile app.

Mission

Working together for a safe community.

Profile

Lyon County Crime Stopper's is a non-profit organization, founded in October of 1985 to serve the citizens of Emporia and Lyon County.  This program is uniquely designed to utilize citizen involvement to assist law enforcement officers in solving crimes; this program encourages citizens with knowledge of crimes to come forward with information either for civic or monetary reasons.

Citizens often witness all or part of a crime without being aware of what they have seen and many times possess the key information which could lead to the solution of a crime.  The Crime Stopper's program allows citizens to inform police about criminal activity without revealing their identity.

Crime Stopper's success is largely due to the anonymity assured to callers by the program.  Many citizens will not contact police simply because they fear that by revealing their identity, they will expose themselves or their families to acts of retaliation by the criminal.

Crime Stoppers has a record of receiving information that helps make possible the solving of hundreds of cases, numerous arrests, and several thousands of dollars in stolen property and recovered illegal narcotics.

Although Crime Stopper's is closely associated with the Lyon County Sheriff's Office and the Emporia Police Department and relies on their well-trained personnel, it is a non-profit organization of citizens against crime.  All local law enforcement agencies benefit from the organization; a board of directors, made up of involved individuals in our community establish policies, raise funds, and determine the amount of reward payments.

How it works: Persons who furnish information leading to the arrest or indictment of criminal offenders are offered anonymity and cash rewards; each caller is given a code number.  A reward payoff is made by non-law enforcement personnel to protect the identity of the caller.  Citizens may call 620-342-2273, text or use the P3 system to provide any information.  P3 is a system that provides a variety of categories related to different crimes where the witness can type in any information related to a crime as well as upload pictures of the crime.  Go to p3tips.com to submit tips.  Calls, texts and P3 tips are answered 24/7 so there is not a delay in information received.

Be sure to visit our social media sites to see information and/or pictures of individuals who are wanted by law enforcement.

The continued success depends on the efforts of our citizens, law enforcement and involvement of the news media.  By working together it is possible!
